What is a SpLD (Specific Learning Difference)?

This is an abbreviation of ‘Specific Learning differences’ a term which includes a cluster of interrelated differences, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and dyscalculia.

You can find more information about our SpLD Team via their webpage.

The SpLD Support Team supports specialist study skills to help students develop strategies to support their learning.  You can access support from your first contact with the service. The team can advise you about accessing diagnostic assessments to obtain evidence to support you in applying for Disabled Students Allowance. (Please note, there are two assessment types available through the team - find out more by visiting the Learning Services Disability Support Assessments webpage).

The team will also support you in applying for exam modifications and will compose a Student Support Plan to inform the department of the challenges you experience and how they can best support you.  They can support you in using Assistive Technologies as a strategy to support tasks such as proofreading and assignment planning.
