How do I claim eye care vouchers? [STAFF ONLY]
Edge Hill University is not obliged to fund the cost of spectacles where:
- An individual already wears spectacles which are adequate for use,
- An individual chooses a more costly item, e.g. designer frames, varifocals etc. In these circumstances, individuals will be expected to pay any additional costs for the frames/lenses.

Fill in all the required fields and click ‘submit’, your request will then be processed and the voucher emailed to you directly.
The Voucher Scheme – SPECSAVERS VDU Eyecare eVoucher
This voucher entitles the holder to:
- A full eye examination
- A pair of glasses from the £49 range - If it is identified that your prescription is required solely and specifically for VDU use (CR39 single vision lenses plus scratch resistant treatment)
- Alternatively the £49 contribution can be used towards an upgrade to other frame ranges.
Your employer is only obligated to provide you with a VDU Specific appliance. Should you use your existing spectacles for general use including VDU work you will NOT be entitled to any additional contribution. The Specsavers voucher has an expiry date please ensure you redeem this voucher prior to the expiry date. Staff can apply for an eye care voucher every two years in line with the optician’s recommendations.
Using other Opticians
- Please note due to changes in HMRC legislation the option to select reimbursement of eyesight tests via the expenses system is no longer available.
- Please use the eye care voucher scheme or alternatively reimbursement can be claimed via payroll, but they will be subject to Tax & NI. For further information please email payroll@edgehill.ac.uk.
